When I wrote this tale for my two children, I had two specific purposes in mind: I had to write a nice, warm and fuzzy story for my 9-year old daughter, who had recently expressed a growing concern about Santa Claus not being real and about how much she still wanted to believe in the traditional tale of Old Saint Nick; also, I had to write an exciting story to satisfy my 11-year-old son's curiosity about the origins of Father Christmas's legend, but also a story that would make him continue to believe that (even within the stark real world) magic and goodness could still exist. I hope this story has accomplished both goals. I hope that, when they are older, they both come to understand that, like so many other things in this world, a thing could very well be true but it could also be quite impossible to prove it. I hope they learn that many important things in life are just like that: Love, Faith and Hope “… But of all these, the greatest is Love”, as we know it from reliable sources.

Cuando escribí este relato para mis dos niños, yo tenía un propósito doble específico en mente: quería escribir una historia simpática, cálida y mona para mi hija de 9 años de edad, quien había expresado recientemente una preocupación cada vez mayor sobre qué tan real es Santa Clós y sobre qué tanto quería ella seguir creyendo en el relato tradicional del Viejo San Nicolás; también, tenía que escribir una historia emocionante para satisfacer la curiosidad de mi hijo de 11 años de edad sobre los orígenes de la leyenda de Papá Noel, pero también una historia que le hiciera creer de nuevo que (aun en la cruda realidad de este mundo) la magia y la bondad pueden existir todavía. Espero que este relato haya logrado ambas metas. Espero que ellos dos se den cuenta que, así como tantas otras cosas en este mundo, algo podría ser muy verdadero, pero también podría ser casi imposible comprobarlo. Espero que aprendan que muchas de las cosas importantes en la vida son así, de esa manera: el Amor, la Fe y la Esperanza. «[…] pero de estas, la mayor es el Amor», como lo sabemos de fuentes fidedignas.
